Who are Inspire Ignite? 

Founded in 2014 by Mental Health Nurse Sue Altass and Social Worker Hannah Cheshire. Inspire Ignite was set up with the aim of making a real difference to mental health by working with young people to encourage personal development, confidence, and self-esteem. 
Sue and Hannah recognised through their years of working in statutory and voluntary sector mental health and addiction services that a lot of mental well-being issues encountered in later life are preventable if self-esteem and confidence are developed earlier. 
 
They have created programmes that schools and colleges can use for all their children and young people, to help them understand what makes them tick, and learn how to make choices that have a positive impact on their well-being and the student’s future. 

Meet Sue 

Meet Sue 

Sue has an extensive background of working in mental health, counseling and coaching, both adults and children. Sue’s gift is in helping children who find school challenging, to succeed. 
 
The Inspiration for Inspire Ignite came from 20 years working in the NHS developing Mental Health services. The motivation to translate her experience and knowledge into workshops for students/ teachers and parents came from a desire to reach out to help more people than she could do in person. 
 
Sue was raised in a small farming community, which she left to travel the world she soon realized her passion for meeting and supporting people and projects was where her skills lay. On returning to the UK after several years she started her Mental Health Nurse Training, she went on to train for the next 10years in various techniques and models of working in the health sector. Her last post was as Head of Custodial Health Care Services which covered a variety of health initiatives and new services. Inspire-Ignite brings together her knowledge and the well-being tools developed by a team of experts, whilst the blog explores resources and information that she shares in the workshops. 
Sue holds a Bsc (hons) in Specialist Community Mental Health, is near completion of her Masters in Strategic Health, a Post Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education. She has a foundation degree in Gestalt Psychotherapy, NLP, Family Therapy and Dealing with Drug and Alcohol abuse. Sue is registered with the ENB (English National Board) for nursing and a member of BACP (British Counseling and Psychotherapy) 
Fascinated and passionate by how a combination of psychological and learning techniques can influence the next generation in being confident, self-aware, motivated leaders of change she works with schools both Primary and Secondary in helping students believe in their abilities. 
Sue and Hannah joined forces and developed Inspire-Ignite. Sue is also the co-owner of a mental health practice that supports people who require Mental Health Capacity Assessments and provides specialist training and One-to-One support and supervision/mentoring for professionals working with vulnerable adults; Altass-Cheshire.co.uk 

Meet Hannah 

Meet Hannah 

“I am motivated to ensure inclusion is at the heart of all we do when working with everyone we work with. Supporting people to realise their potential, and find their inner strength is a core role within Inspire-Ignite” 
 
Hannah qualified as a social worker in 2000 from Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge. She has worked within the field of Social Inclusion since 2000. Initial working as a Specialist Drugs Worker for Commercial Sex Workers and progressing in her career into management over the next 5 years when she became the Head of Service – Hull Social Inclusion for City HealthCare Partnership in 2005. 
 
In 2011 she became the senior manager for the Hull Addictions Recovery Service and began the journey of understanding the Recovery Agenda and the potential it holds for adults and their families. In 2013 Hannah successful attained a Master’s Degree in Health and Social Care Management and Leadership from Hull University, and joined Sue Altass in co-founding Inspire-Ignite; an organisation that supports and encourages a transition to enable progression and learning. 
Hannah’s’ drive and passion for social inclusion come from a core belief that people are equal, (irrelevant of differences) and should have equality and quality in service provision and education. Acknowledging that services and education needs to be provided by motivated, knowledgeable and professional staff. Hannah’s commitment to InspireIgnite’s mission comes from her desire to support young people in transitions. 
Hannah states that: ‘to be a part of a young person’s transition is rewarding; supporting them to grow is inspiring. Given the skills to change and the knowledge about themselves, young people can make incredible changes that will support transitional phases throughout their lives.’

I am most interested in the well-being of children and adolescents and am looking to pursue a career in this field in due course. Having achieved twelve GCSE grade A-C qualifications. 
 
I am now studying Maths, Psychology, Sport, and Health & Social Care with a view to entering further education to pursue a degree in Mental Health Nursing, ultimately specialising in child mental health. 
 
Away from my studies I participate in several sporting activities. In school I have collected annual awards (ten in total) for football ability commitment and leadership, team award, effort and service to sport. I also achieved a leadership in sport qualification through the school. In 2015 my school team and I had the honour of playing at Wembley before the FA Cup final, losing out in the final to a superb team from Bristol. 
 
I am a private maths tutor for two individual GCSE students who are now excelling in their subject. Our weekly sessions have helped to improve their abilities.

Being a young person myself, I’ve used this personal element to relate with many different students – volunteering to help young people from 12+ overcome interpersonal challenges (such as social anxiety). I obtained a full scholarship at Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate and there I gained experience assisting varying age groups of students with schoolwork and career building; for example, participating in optional on-site schoolwork-aiding interventions. 
 
Alongside this, I have managed and directed an independent awareness campaign and fundraising project, helping FareShare UK in their mission for poverty alleviation. I collaborated with like-minded young people to raise money and awareness; this gave me the personable skills to further work with young people. 
 
Thus, I am keen to further work with and aim to inspire other young people as I have experienced the benefits that this can bring to young lives. 
 
Outside of this, I am an incoming Economics undergraduate at Trinity college, University of Cambridge.

Emma is currently completing level 4 diploma in therapeutic counselling at York college. The type of therapy that Emma offer’s is person centred, person centred therapy allows the client the capacity for growth, development and change and I will do this within a safe non-judgemental, honest and confidential environment, She is also a student member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy).

Paul Spence

In a testament to his inspiring story, Paul has dedicated himself to offer much-needed community support for people (from the Young to the Older) affected by brain injury. 
 
In 2012, Paul was attacked without provocation in a busy bar. He subsequently suffered a serious brain injury that would change my life forever. 
 
Since this incident, he has documented his journey in a bid to inspire and support others who have experienced a brain injury. Today, he dedicates his life to spearheading fundraising and charity events with a focus on his motto and philosophy: 
 
Positivity, Awareness, Understanding and Love, which encourages others to see a light at the end of a tunnel.

Autism Support 
 
She has a Degree and Post Graduate level qualifications in Autism and Language and Communication Impairment and is trained in SCERTS, TEACCH, Intensive Interaction and Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS). 
 
Her creative and person centred approach to developing solutions and support alongside the skill ofbeing able to see the world through the eyes of those with autism, can be seen in the greatly improved outcomes of those children and young people that she works with. 
 
Louise has experience of working at leadership level, transforming autism practice, and is a skilled presenter and trainer with a wealth of experience in developing and delivering training for a wide range of audiences from Early Years Practitioner SEND training to presenting at SSAT conferences.

Having been a school leader in secondary schools in Northamptonshire, Hull and North Lincolnshire he has experience in all aspects of school leadership with a focus on mentoring and coaching both pupils and staff to improve performance.He is able to motivate and inspire as well as challenge and support. Fundamentally, he believes that every person has the right to achieve their potential and this is only made possible through collaboration and courage. 
 
He has completed the National Professional Qualification for Headship and has a Masters’ of Education which researched the use of coaching at senior leadership. 
 
He is passionate about learning and education. An honest, organised, calm, solution focused, innovative and not afraid to listen and learn person. 
 
With four young daughters, he would not survive without a sense of humour also.

Through my story, I aim to highlight the importance of following safety protocols and prioritising the well-being of ourselves and others in the workplace. 
 
In addition to promoting safety, I am also an advocate for mental health awareness. I understand firsthand the emotional challenges that can arise from such traumatic incidents. 
 
By openly sharing my struggles and journey toward healing, I hope to inspire others to seek support, break the stigma surrounding mental health, and foster a culture of compassion and understanding.
